…and speaking of old songs…

Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” mystery resurfaces, almost four decades later…and pegged to her new album coming out. Nice work, publicists, nice work.

[Two music posts in one day?! Wow, I must really love you guys.]

Guess things happen that way, like winning stuff while downloading music

I know I don’t write about music so much, but that’s because my taste in music is very limited. Like, as in pretty much only songs from the 1980’s limited.  Okay, yes, I do like some current stuff, but I’m definitely more a lover of retro music, which is why I got a kick out of hearing that the 10,000,000,000 song downloaded on iTunes turned out to be an oldie: “Guess Things Happen That Way,” by Johnny Cash.  The guy who bought the 10 billionth download, a 71-year-old retired real estate broker living in Woodstock, GA, will receive a $10,000 iTunes gift card, AND he heard from both Steve Jobs and Roseanne Cash, thanking him for his well-spent 99 cents.

…Pop Culture Bites…Pop Culture Bites…Pop Culture Bites…

  • It looks like Betty White might get to host Saturday Night Live after all! Okay, well, more like co-host, as there will be other funny ladies there too (the more the merrier I always say!). — EW
  • Shit that’s cool: William Shatner will star in the pilot of CBS’ Shit My Dad Says…I said it before and I’ll say it again, PLEASE KEEP THAT TITLE. —Fishbowl LA
  • I think it’s safe to say that Better Off Ted won’t be renewed. The guy who plays Ted (Jay Harrington) is set to star in a new show called Nathan v. Nurture and Bill Pullman has just signed on to co-star. Whoa, Bill Pullman! Where has that guy been? — Hollywood Reporter
  • Quentin Tarantino did something nice. And I’m sure it’s purely a coincidence that it was announced to the press right around Oscar time. —ABC

2010 Winter Olympics round-up

image source: the new york times

When it comes to watching the Olympics, there are two groups of people. Group 1: those who are glued to their television/computer/smartphone for minute-to-minute coverage and probably own some kind of past/present Olympics’ memorabilia. Group 2: those who passively pay attention; wait for someone from Group 1 to fill them in, or just happen to catch a headline as they scroll for other news.

So, Group 2, I inform you that the Olympics are a little more than half over; here are some headlines from the past week:

  • Some sad news–there have been two deaths at the Olympics this year. [USA TODAY] [LA TIMES]
