Television/pop culture quiz fanatics everywhere are mourning the death of Ken Ober, host of MTV’s beloved game show, Remote Control. The series aired from 1987-1989 and featured Adam Sandler, Denis Leary and Colin Quinn.
As of now, the cause of death hasn’t been released, but according to the latest reports, he apparently had flu-like symptoms the day before he was found dead. Ober had most recently been a producer on Mind of Mencia and The New Adventures of Old Christine.
I watched Remote Control every chance I got, and had hoped one day I too would have the opportunity to sit in one of the recliners, receive a snack from the ceiling and attempt to engage in witty banter with Ober and his crew. Much to my disappointment, the show had been canceled before I had reached the eligible age. But nonetheless, it was enough for me that such a game show had existed, where knowing television trivia was celebrated (and could win you prizes!) and sarcastic humor was expected.
RIP, Mr. Ober.
